Cardboard car derby plans being made for EcoFest

Faulkner County's first Cardboard Car Derby, Formula EcoFest Grand Prix (EGP), will take place at Conway EcoFest's inaugural event slated for Sept. 12 at Laurel Park.

The intent of this event is to promote engineering skills and alternative energy, as well as to demonstrate the intrinsic worth of discarded materials. The concept of creating "something built from nothing" is to be the guiding principle of the race. In keeping with this principle, the monetary outlay for any vehicle should not exceed $100.

Complete rules and regulations are available at Technical questions should be directed to Joe Lamb (; for all other general questions contact Debbie Plopper.

Plastic wheels are required (no rubber). A limited supply of 10" plastic wheels is now available on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact Debbie Plopper at 327-2105.

The course will be a combination of slalom and tight and sweeping turns in the fashion of a SCCA autocross. The race course will be on the grounds of the Conway High School parking lot.
